I chose Duncan Construction to handle the up-fit for my orthodontic practice, and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.  From the beginning, Jim was personally involved in all phases of the project, including walking through the plans with me and pointing out any issues that needed to be addressed prior to the start of construction.  We had a relatively tight 90 day window to complete construction, and somehow Jim was able to finish the project with a week to spare.  I have plenty of experience in construction and development, and this was the first project I have ever heard of being completed prior to the deadline.  Jim handles every aspect of the project and really looks out for the well being of his clients, which is unheard of in today’s construction industry.  There were no change orders associated with the project, which again is extremely rare.  At the end of construction, Jim called me to tell me there was a $400 mistake in his budget, and the next day while I was getting my checkbook out to write him a check for the difference, he stopped by the office to drop off the $400 THAT HE OWED ME!  I cannot tell you how smoothly construction went, and there was never one time that an issue came up that he did not handle immediately.  His professionalism and attention to detail made this experience extremely enjoyable.  We will be expanding soon, and I assure you Duncan Construction will be the contractor we use.

It has been my pleasure to have Duncan Construction company build for me and my family for 44 years. First Grant Duncan, Jim’s father, built my office on Dove Street in 1968 where I practiced medicine. Then Grant built a beach home for us in 1982 that has withstood hurricane and the harsh unprotected beach environment. Jim followed in his father’s footsteps and has continued to meet all our building needs no matter how big or how small. Jim leaves nothing to chance. He builds as it was his own- need I say more? Jim loves a challenge and can solve any problems that arises in construction. My experience with Duncan Construction has truly been great.

We were very fortunate to have met Jim due to his relationship with our architect. Having been through 2 residential projects I was dreading tackling a commercial project, but Jim made it the smoothest process I could have imagined. His attention to detail was phenomenal. Jim had the ability to involve me on each detail to the extent that I wanted to be involved (quite a bit in some areas and not at all in others). Jim did a phenomenal job of finding ways to help us “Value engineer” our project on our tight budget and truly saved us, though there were areas he would not allow us to “skimp”, and I am thankful for that. We are 9 months out from the completion of the project and would not change a thing, thanks to Jim. To this day, when I have a question Jim responds very quickly to my call. When the time comes for another residential project, I am hopeful I can use Duncan construction!! My experience building my new orthodontic practice location was incredible all because of Jim Duncan. He was instrumental in working closely with my architect to improve the plans for function, save thousands of dollars through value engineering and ensuring all purchases and selections were appropriate. Jim was directly involved with the project – there was no superintendent that I contacted. He kept me abreast about all facets of the project and informed me when my input was needed and would give suggestions where appropriate. His many years of experience never failed to guide my project to completion AHEAD of my anticipated timeline. Furthermore, his integrity was fundamental to the project. In our busy Charlotte office, the proposition of carrying out a major construction project in and around a working environment brings out thoughts of anxiety and tension. In my case I have done several projects with other contractors in very similar scenarios which in fact did bring me a lot of grief. Dia and I have experience the pleasure of working with Jim Duncan on multiple projects. We built 2 homes and 1 commercial property with Jim. Jim Duncan, of Duncan Construction, and I have built many buildings “together” over the years. By together I mean that Jim regularly takes the time to meet with his clients and always takes full responsibility foe his projects. Whether it is my 1^st office building, a commercial office park he built with us, our home or the up fit for several of our satellite office locations. Jim has always taken responsibility for complete satisfaction with the project.

As an entrepreneur and private business owner I can tell you it is rare to find people like Jim who still take pride in their work, and a client’s satisfaction to the point where years after completion of a project, I still feel perfectly comfortable in calling Jim with a question or concern. In fact, once, about seven years after I moved into our “dream house”, we had problems with a short circuit in our water pump, not wanting to bother Jim we called a pump service. Thousands of dollars (and a few weeks) later Jim learned about this and actually reprimanded me for not having called him to personally recommend a new type of pump to be used in replacement of the old one, this was not a financial issue for Ji, it was an “ownership of the project” issue. He felt fully responsible for our house and wanted to make sure any work done on it was done correctly.

I can tell countless stories of work done, advice given, and hours spent by Jim to make sure that we were satisfied even if there was no income to be made. His expertise in design and construction related trades permit him to oversee each phase of a project and personally vouch for the quality of the work done. These are the types of people you what to work for you and with you, there is never a middleman, only personal accountability. I regularly give Jim Duncan my highest possible endorsement, and now I have the opportunity to do it again. The next time I have a building project I will be calling Duncan Construction.

If you said something was going to get done in a certain way or on a certain date, it happened just as you said.
